Latin Blocks 1, 2, and 3

Those students who have not completed all the previously assigned Aeneid
summaries, fact sheets and crosswords should finish and turn them in.

Your next assignment is to read the following essay
on the  origin, refinement, and dissemination of the Trojan Horse Story.

Next, quietly read aloud to yourself the first 297 lines of Aeneid Book 2
in a modern English translation.

Then use this link to look at visual images of the Trojan Horse
from the 7th century BC up to modern day America.
Now THINK about the material you have read and the pictures you have looked at.
How has the story been visualized and described throughout history?
What aspects of the poem recur most frequently in the visual images?
What aspects of the story are not portrayed
or have been downplayed with the passage of time?
How have the images changed through time? Why do you think this is the case?
How is the Trojan Horse image employed in contemporary society?
What undertones or implicit meanings are associated with the image and story?
After you have considered these questions and revisited the written and visual material,
write an original essay expressing your thoughts on some aspect of the Trojan Horse Story.
This paper should be submitted before Christmas vacation.
Email  or Message me your work
or turn it in on paper to Ms. Garris in the office and ask her to put it in my mailbox.
